PLUMBING PROBLEM GUIDES

Showers & Baths

Shower and bath controls, fittings and temperature problems.

Start with what has changed: the water temperature, flow, controls or drainage. Choose the guide that matches the problem and identify the type of shower before trying a check.

Choose by symptom

Mixer and electric showers get their hot water in different ways. Follow the guidance for your own shower type; the same symptom does not always have the same cause.

Common questions

Which guide matches a cold shower or changing temperature?

Use Shower not getting hot for consistently cold or lukewarm water, and Shower temperature keeps changing for repeated swings. Identify the shower type before following any checks.

Is a dripping shower the same as a shower that will not turn off?

No. A drip after shutoff and continuing flow that the normal control cannot stop need different guidance. Water escaping around fittings or the enclosure belongs with Shower leaking.

Should I use the bath or shower drain guide?

Use Bath blocked for a bath, including a shower over it. Use Shower drain blocked for a tray or wet-room drain; do not transfer the bath plunger method to a shower tray.
