PLUMBING PROBLEM GUIDES

Hot Water

Problems with hot-water supply across the home.

Start with what comes out of the hot tap and whether the problem affects one outlet or the whole home. Choose the guide that matches the symptom and the hot-water system you have.

Choose by symptom

A single cold tap or shower can need different checks from several affected hot taps. Combi boilers, stored hot water and independent electric showers do not all work in the same way.

Common questions

Which guide matches no hot water, lukewarm water or water that soon goes cold?

Choose the observed behaviour: absent hot water, consistently lukewarm water, or hot water that runs out during normal use. They have different guides; none of these symptoms alone identifies a boiler fault.

What if only one mixer tap or shower is affected?

Start with the fitting-specific guide. A single mixer’s control behaviour or a cold shower needs different checks from several affected hot outlets; an independent electric shower has its own heating arrangement.

Where should I look for weak flow, temperature swings or discoloured hot water?

Use the guide matching that separately observed symptom. Weak hot flow, repeated temperature changes and a change in water colour are not interchangeable diagnoses.
